HKIE

The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) commissioned a new mascot to celebrate the 2023 inauguration of its President and his Protégé Scheme. This vibrant and engaging character aims to connect with younger members, participants in school outreach programs, and the public.

The beaver was chosen as a fitting symbol for HKIE, reflecting its role as a natural ecosystem engineer —constructing and recreating its habitat, much like engineers shape and improve our world. As a creature also featured in the HKIE logo, the beaver reinforces the institution’s core values.

The design draws inspiration from the phrase  “Engineer is Everything”, as engineers play roles in almost every industry.   The mascot’s versatile design allows it to transform into various forms, representing the diverse fields of engineering. A set of 26 alphabet variations was created, allowing for personalised applications and further strengthening the connection with individual engineers.
